Welcome back to #MUSICED! #MUSICED is a weekly series that will help YOU stay educated about the complexities of the music industry, giving you everything you need to know about monetizing your masters. On this week’s #MUSICED, we discuss copyright!
Copyright is the technical term for a song and has two sides; the composition (Publishing) side & the Sound Recording (Master) side. Copyright for a musical work refers to a song’s original composition and lyrics, usually credited to a songwriter or composer. On the other hand, copyright for a sound recording refers strictly to the recording of said audio work, credited to the performer and the producer of the recording. All copyrighted songs qualify for royalties and performance rights when performed or played in a public setting. At TEG, we make it our mission for our clients to fully benefit from their copyrighted work.
